| Servant Ministry
With service as part of our mission statement, it is an integral part of our way of life at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church. Service involves everyone, in many different ways, from the youngest to the oldest members. Volunteering to serve is a great way to get involved. Here are a few of the many ways we serve our Lord by serving our community:
Servant Sundays In the fall we pick a Sunday were where spend the morning doing service projects in our community rather than sitting in the church. These projects could be working at the Children’s Home Society, doing yard work for our neighbors, handing out water to exercisers and dog walkers in the nearby park, paying for a load of laundry at the laundromat, providing a meal to our firefighters or police force, singing and visiting with members in a local nursing home, making blankets for a local shelter and much more. We start the morning by meeting at the church for a devotion, then everyone goes out and gets involved in a service project for the morning, and finally we met back at the church for sharing time and lunch. It’s quite a morning putting our faith into action! English as a Second Language Cooperating with Christian Friends of New Americans, we offer ESL classes to individuals and families to meet the needs of our diversifying community. Send Me St. Louis In the spring, in conjunction with a city-wide service day, Mount Calvary participates and offers service projects for those in the community to be involved in. This spring those registered to serve at Mount Calvary packed food for Kids Against Hunger, painted a building at Paraquad, and sorted and organized donations at Nurses For Newborns.
Volunteering at the church
There are countless ways to volunteer at the church itself! You could working at a family program or camp event, teaching Sunday School or Bible Class, sharing your musical talent during a worship service or other special occasion, help fold bulletins or answer the telephone in the office, visit the homebound and hospitalized, reading books to the preschool children, planting flowers around the church, just to name a few. Talk to Pastor and he can help you find a way to put your talents to good use. |
